NICKO
Nicko’s artistry exemplifies the transformative impact of creative evolution. He was born in 1952 in the historic city of Bruges, Belgium.
After a remarkable career as a restorer of paintings, he transitioned to becoming a compelling visual artist. For many years, he provided his skills for the careful restoration of artworks, taking on projects from dioceses, corporate and governmental collections, SMAK, Tate London, and discerning private collectors.
Nicko has delved into painting techniques from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, including imprimatura, tempera, glazing, and oil paint, integrating these methods into his work.
In contrast to the structured realm of restoration, Nicko’s artistic approach is a journey of freedom and spontaneity, shedding limitations or preconceived plans, allowing the painting to form, evolve, and develop naturally.
Not bound by sketches he uses a written description of shape, texture, and color as a flexible outline for improvisational exploration.
