Hanne Arends work is an expressive manifestation of her outlook on life. Emerging unconsciously, shapes and figures take form organically. Each piece carries an evocative (his)story, which evolves through an introspective dialogue.

By playing with materials and illusion she challenges perception, creating layers of meaning that encourage viewers to look closer and to question their assumptions.

This exploration allows her to blur the lines between reality and imagination, inviting an experience of discovery and ambiguity. The act of creation is intense, fueled by unpredictable emotions and continuous questioning.

Over time,by gaining control of her media, she has transformed her works into spatial experiments that delve into dimensions of multiplicity, volume, and mass.

Arends invites audiences into a dialogue about perception, materiality, and the unseen complexities of what we believe to be real.

MASKS

The project 'Masks' has emerged from a fascination with identity and the ease with which we can modify it in this era. In both real life and online (on social media), we can easily portray ourselves in a certain way. We live in a time where one can effortlessly adjust their appearance to what is considered desirable. Artist Hanne Arends asks whether this 'constructability' should be limited to prevent going too far and ending up in an irreversibly absurd society.

The Karel Series Tapestries

 The Karel Series, a collection of life-sized hand-tufted wall hangings in wool and acrylic, capturing the intense emotions of facial expressions. Serving as self-portraits, they embody the artist’s mood shifts and events which have touched her. Without making prior sketches, each piece comes to life organicaaly during creation.
