Ted Collier

(b. 1974, American)

Ted Collier is an American contemporary artist best known for his abstract paintings inspired by the inherent patterns of the natural world. Drawing from Minimalism and the De Stijl movement, Collier responds to the modern saturation of artificial realism found in advertising and social media, distilling his visual environments to their most essential forms and colors. His work emerges from abstracted “mental snapshots” that evolve over time—transforming memories and experiences into geometric compositions imbued with a quiet universality.

Although Collier has painted since childhood, his professional artistic journey began in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008, following the global financial crisis. After leaving a fifteen-year career in real estate and taking on various construction jobs, he returned to art by repurposing materials such as plywood and leftover house paint to create his first series and impromptu exhibitions.

Today, Collier’s portfolio encompasses a wide range of visual expressions—from subtle, monochromatic explorations to bold, vibrantly colored works. A self-taught artist, he has established his own studio and developed a strong presence in private collections, galleries, and institutions across the United States.
